Scleroderma: From Pathogenesis to Comprehensive Management, 3rd
Yannick Allanore, John Varga, Christopher P. Denton, Masataka Kuwana, Lorinda Chung, (eds.)
Scleroderma research, funded by the NIH and other agencies, has led to important advances in
understanding the disease. Researchers continue to discover new insights about the vascular
defects, inflammation, and fibrosis that are hallmarks of scleroderma. Investigations have
revealed molecules that may help to identify, and improve screening and guide treatment for,
scleroderma patients who may be at increased risk for serious disease manifestations, such as
lung disease, pulmonary hypertension or cancer. Recent technological advances in genetics,
genomics, and epigenetics have greatly enhanced fundamental knowledge of scleroderma.
These advances hold promise for using molecular characteristics to stratify participants in
clinical studies, develop innovative targeted therapies, and facilitate precision medicine to
improve outcomes for this complex disease.
Despite considerable research progress, there remains an unmet need for effective, targeted
therapies for scleroderma. In this book, international scientific and clinical experts studying
various aspects of scleroderma present the latest breakthroughs in disease prevention, classifi-
cation treatment, and management to improve the lives of individuals with scleroderma.
